WALLINGFORD - Roger Munson Eckels, 85, of Wallingford, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Miller Memorial Community. He was the beloved husband of Doris A. MacKenzie for 61 years.He was born in New Haven, Oct. 30, 1926, a son of the late Rae and Flora Munson Eckels. He was raised in Hamden and graduated from Northeastern University in 1953. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Eckels was employed as a banker at First New Haven National Bank until his retirement. He had been a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church, a life member of the V.F.W. Major Raoul Lufbery Post 591, and belonged to the Wooster Lodge 79 A.F. and A.M. in New Haven. A sports enthusiast he was an avid N.Y. Giants, Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan. Above all Roger treasured his time with his wife, family and friends.
In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by his two daughters, Judith A. Derrick, of California, and Karen L. Gamble, of Durham; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen R. and Mary Ellen Eckels, of Yalesville; his four grandchildren, Christopher R. Eckels, Jonathan C. Eckels, Alecia P. Bohan and Erika A. Gamble; his great- grandchildren Cody and Jaxon Bohan; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Alvin Eddy, of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Eckels.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., in the Yalesville section of Wallingford, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 4 until 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend committal services with military honors on Thursday at 11 a.m. directly at Centerville Cemetery, Washington St., Hamden. A memorial service will follow at Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville, at 12 p.m. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Yalesville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

WALLINGFORD - Marie Germain Lufbery, 103, formerly of Wallingford, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Avon Health Care Center in Avon, CT. She was the beloved wife of the late Marcel J. Lufbery, a nephew of the late Major Raoul Lufbery, the first American ACE in World War I.
Marie was born in Wallingford, March 5, 1908, a daughter of the late Philip and Eva Guilbeault Germain. She had been employed by the former Wallace Silversmith's and had served on the Wallingford Republican Town Committee. She was a Parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and was a member of the Wallingford Chapter of AARP. Marie was an avid sports fan, especially the UCONN Women's Basketball Team.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana M. Stickle and her husband, Robert L. Stickle Sr., of Avon; her grandson, Robert L. Stickle Jr., M.D. and his wife, Shirley H. Stickle M.D; and their daughters, Colette, Corinne and Camille Stickle all of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.; her granddaughter, Randi-Lyn Scheffler and her husband, John Scheffler, of South Boston, Mass.; her sisters, Eva (Mrs. William) Pudvah, of Kingston, R.I., and Edna (Mrs. William) Wieland. of Wallingford; her two sisters-in-law, Doris Lufbery Riotte. of Wallingford and Margaret Lufbery. of Cheshire; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marsha Lufbery; her son, Robert K. Lufbery; and her brothers, Amedie Germain and 1st Lt. Philip Germain who was killed in action in World War II.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, March 5, at 11 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. WALLINGFORD - Alvin H. Eddy, 81, of Wallingford, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at MidState Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Eckels Eddy for 56 years.
Alvin was born in New Haven, July 31, 1930, a son of the late Harold and Bertha vonHausen Eddy. Al served as sexton for the Yalesville United Methodist Church for the past 22 years. He was an avid sports fan, having played football at the high school, military and college levels. He enjoyed golf and fishing, and was a superb swimmer. Most of all, Al was a passionate artist, producing many works that are shared by his family and many friends. Al was a member of the A.F. & A.M. Wooster Lodge 79. He was an active member of many community interest groups and a friend to many.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his children, Mathew Eddy and his wife, Susan Kingsland, of Brunswick, Maine, Nola Eddy, of Wethersfield, and Walter Eddy, of Meriden; his granddaughters, Samantha Eddy and Zoe Eddy, and Zoe's husband, Christopher Wilkins; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Vera Eddy, of North Haven; and several nieces and nephews.

John W. Stender
WALLINGFORD - John W. Stender, 89, entered into rest on March 31, 2012, at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville. He was the former husband of the late Flora (Huelstede) Stender.
He was born in Durham, July 9, 1922 a son of the late William and Adeline Rich Stender.
Mr. Stender was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. John married Flora in March 1946. John and Flora spent nearly all of their married life together in the house they had built. He retired from Wallace Silversmith & Sons, where he was a tool and die maker. He was a former member of the Major Raoul Lufbery V.F.W. Post 591 in Wallingford. John enjoyed woodworking and started making novelty items and bird houses. He also enjoyed his fishing trips with his close friend, Vic, to Niantic for flats and stripers. John was a good fisherman, bringing home plenty of fish. His other interests included gardening, playing cards and spending time at the casino.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Richard Musso, Nancy Yale, Shirley and Joseph Barillaro and Cheryl and Jim McCaffrey, all of Wallingfordp; two brothers, William Stender of Middletown and Edward Stender of Cromwell; two grandchildren, Christine Bergeron and Joe Barillaro II; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford. Burial with military honors will be at Mica Hill Cemetery in Durham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. John's family would like to thank the professional staff and caring aides of the Alzheimer's Resource Center for the excellent care John received during his stay.
